Saturday I was able to get out and clean up the back yard. Filled 2 50 gal bags with just leaves. Filled another with mowing's. Sunday went to the folks and replaced the battery in my moms laptop. P.I.T.A getting to it, once I got in it wasn't bad getting the battery out, back in and back together. Monday I pulled my PC out and added a longer printer cable and cleaned out the PC it self. Did a little cable rerouting before putting everything back. Back to work tomorrow.

Yeah, laptops aren't the most fun things to work on, lol. PC's can really pick up the dirt quick, I take mine out once in a while when I think about it and take the air hose to it, amazing the cloud of dust that comes out of the case and the power supply, I found that if you pressurize the case it forces the dust out, at least most of it anyways, one of mine I put 3 fans in and one out and it stays pretty clean for quite awhile, last year I built an open unit for the fun of it and it stays nice and clean, thought about converting the one on my desk to a wall unit so I have more room, besides they do look cool.

I forgot about them open PC's. I should convert this one for giggles. I have been tossing around getting a new PC just to update everything. I was thinking over the weekend, I got this one in Feb of 2014. Been good and haven't had any issues. But getting to that point of unreliability. I have tossed around building my own, But so out of touch with whats out there I wouldn't know what to get. I don't do any gaming or high res videoing. But want something somewhat decent. My laptop I got in early 2013, so it may be ready to hit the road too.

Well, I got one PC out in the shop that I use for radio stations and for quick reference stuff only, it's close to 20yrs old now, I'm surprised that Win11 works on it, . Built two identical basic cheapy ones last year, one for general use and one(the open one)for testing stuff and downloading music and movies, but then I started playing around with editing and stuff and I really pushed it, in fact a couple of times it pretty much came to a stop, l probably should do a little upgrading before i burn it down. I been getting all my stuff from "NewEgg" for a long time, they have tons of stuff to choose from and I've never had an issue with them, customer service has always been tops and returning or getting replacements were a piece a cake, and if you sign up for an account you get advanced notice on sales which they have quite often, might check them out.

Been poking around and have no idea what's what. Don't need to run the state, just need something reliable. I don't do any gaming or need any special graphic's. Only thing I really do is some music streaming and may watch a video now and then. Thats out side of the normal email's and bill paying B.S. or web surfing. Box I have now has an I5-4460 CPU with 8gig ram and a 1terabite drive that I'm only using about 60gig of. I'm using the onboard video with the HDMI connection. and ethernet connection. I was using the WiFi. As I said, This is all about 9 years old. Time to put something together or buy something ready to go. Then I will take this and hang it on the wall. I have plywood and nails in the garage so that won't be a problem.

Heck, sounds like all you need is basic stuff like I have, I have Ryzen5 2400G with on board Graphics and Audio and on board LAN no cards or anything, I do have 16G of RAM though that does help. All I have is a 250G hard drive, I learned the hard way you don't save anything on the PC, everything goes on portable external drives, PC takes a dump I don't lose anything. But I been doing a lot of research on Linux, they've come a long ways so I'm slowly converting over, I put it on one of my PC's already and I couldn't believe how much lighter it is than Windows, takes up a lot less room and resources not to mention more secure, and it's kinda fun learning how it works, it is pretty simple. Once I get more familiar with it I'll put it on all my PC's, screw Windows.

Got some bad news this morning. Don't know if you knew or heard of Chuck at extreme marine. He passed away. Still trying to get some details on when and how. I saw him just before thanksgiving and was planning on swinging into his place in the next couple weeks.

Mother board is where I'm having an issue on what to use. Video and LAN I will what's on board as well. I have been looking at the intel i5-12400 but open to just about anything. Thats just what I know. Been at least 15 years since I have had my hands on any internal PC parts.

Well, in my opinion it's whatever suits your needs the best and it's potential for upgrades and ease of use, as far as brands I don't think there's really a bad one, don't forget it's electronics you never know if you get a bad or good one until you use it, all I've used were IMSI, Gigabyte and Asus boards, all worked good but I tend to favor Asus just preference I guess. CPU's, I had two Intel's(My first PC's) and I didn't care for them, went to AMD and been there ever since. But for the motherboard I would suggest getting one that supports upgrades, because you never know down the road you might want to do more with the unit that will require more CPU and RAM, this way you won't have buy another motherboard and be stuck with a perfectly good one that you have no use for, if you know what I mean. It is hard to decide since the sky is the limit on this stuff and so much to choose from. This is just my experience with this stuff and I sure don't know it all, lol, but If i can be of any help just give shout.

Good info. I played a little with a tool newegg has for selecting equipment. Looks to be pretty helpful. The cases they have I'm not to sure of. I will have to do more research on that end for one I like and will work for what I set up. Or just get a power supply and use the case I have. It's got an ATX setup now.

Just for giggles , I setup this machine with their configurator. Roughly $777. I tossed in the Windows 11 as that is what I will most likely end up with.

That is a nice combo, that would be great for what you want to do, only thing I question is CPU/Motherboard compatibility? according to Newegg Specs "AMD AM4 Socket 3rd and 2nd Gen AMD Ryzen / 3rd, 2nd and 1st Gen AMD Ryzen with Radeon Graphics Processors * BIOS update might require for AMD Zen 3 Ryzen 5000 series CPU. Refer to ASUS website for CPU support list." I would go to ASUS site and double check to see if The Ryzen5 is on the list just to make sure?. To me case is a case as long as it's ATX and has what you need it's all good, unless you're tired of looking at it and want something different, lol. As far as Windows that's free as long as you have a Key, just download the "Media Creation Tool" from Microsoft, follow instructions to download Win 11 to a flash drive for a clean install, very simple to do. You would have a nice rig there.

I didn't grind down into the specs like I should have. Just jacking around to see what I could do. I'll dig a little deeper once I decide how I want to do this. It does look good on paper though.

It is very good, I have the Ryzen5 in both my machines and I like them, myself if that board don't support it I'd just look for another one similar that supports it.

Looks like an all around good combo there Don't think you need that cooler though, unless you plan on doing some overclocking and pushing it to the edge, the CPU comes with a pretty good heat sync and fan. I've never used that brand of hard drive but I've never read anything negative about it though, I've always used Seagate or Western Digital. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

LOL I didn't see that it came with a cooler. I'll remove the bad a$$ one. LOL I have no reason to over clock it. That was a drive they had on the build I used so I left it. Now to make the decision to build this one or one that I keep seeing on their site for $549.

Cool looking unit, I hate store bought ones because they put so much trash in it(Windows comes with enough crap in it to begin with) and it's never exactly what you want anyhow, lol, one major turn off in this one is Windows Home, it's junk, it's unstable and some diagnostics and services are not available in the Home version, but if you're not comfortable building one yourself????, it's just so much nicer to start off with a nice clean unit to suit, I started off with store bought ones, after two of them I decided it's time to learn how to build my own Found out quick that it was very easy to do.
