Great day for racing!!! Had 20 cars in out Sport comp class and 5 in our top comp class. SPort comp was won by our 17 year old rooky from last year in his small block powered S15on a 12:40 dial. The top comp class was won by one of our JR Dragster racers last season now running a big block powered rear engine dragster running an 8:05 dial. Both cars were on rails all day cutting the tree down and running their dials. The two kids went head to head for the grand finally. The S15 JUST nosed the dragster out at the big end. BOTH right on their dials. The S15 Got the better RT over the dragster. Super fun to watch these two run.
Motor Trend was out there as well finishing up a comparison of a Hellcat and a Ferrari. From what I was told they have run the two cars through their paces in other trials and drags was the final test. They also had a bad a$$ looking new Camero that was electric. First pass was a 10:12. Left hard with wheels in the air like a stock class car. I thought it was pretty bad A$$ to see electric power. I was also told this was a proto type and Chevy is looking at doing a production line of them.

Carrier bearing seems to be OK. Now the rubber around is in tack, but seems real soft. U-Joint all are nice and snug. No slop in the ring and pinion. Took my screw driver/stethoscope and poked around while I had it up in the air. Definitely the sound is coming from the rear end. Everywhere I placed the screw driver the bearing sounded dry (best way I can describe it) Just not sure exactly from what bearing making the niose. Stopped and talked to the guys at AZ Diff this afternoon, they can do a total rebuild for 700 bones. I just got to figure out how to get it there and be able to pick it up.
As for the Chevy. I was going to attack the Valve covers this weekend. But the weather may keep me from doing that. We will see.
Rubber shouldn't be real soft, it's a sign it's going out but you'll get a thumping sound when you put it in gear when it jumps around not a grinding noise. Could be an axle bearing?, sound will travel through the axle and sound off on the housing, then again it could be a carrier bearing too??, not a bad price for a total rebuild probably the best way to go.

Sounds like it was a fun time, wish I could have made it. Sounds like the Motor Trend deal was pretty interesting too.

I just need to figure out how to get it there and picked up. Now the chevy is acting up. Wouldn't start tuesday morning. Has all sorts of power. Lights on the dash and the headlights all work just not kicking the starter. I get home and the second twist of the key and it starts. Got it in the driveway so I can work on it in between the rain drops this weekend. about 12 years ago the started hung up. I pulled it and tested it and slapped it back in. Been good untill now. I may replace it, but I just don't think thats all of it.

Did a little research last evening. Could be several things. I'll just have to start at one end and work through. As I was looking into this, I get to thinking. The times it has done this is when it was cold out in the morning. I'ts been good so I drove it this morning. Feel like I'm playing Russian roulette by doing so. We will see. Going to trudge on Saturday with the valve covers and try not to get to wet.

Yeah, it could let ya down at the worst time if it's not taken care of, at least that's the way it is with me. Don't look like it's gonna be an ideal weekend to try andget anything done either.

Heading to the dump in the morning. Then the Taco back to Discount. Feels like I have one separating and one out of balance. Temps should be better by the time I get that done so I can dig into the Chevy.

Wow, didn't you just buy those tires not too long ago
Nope!! Turns out they were all way out of balance. Still an issue with a rear one. Got a major warble at 15 to 20 mph. Will be going back this afternoon.

Realy!!?? I did not know that. I need to get the chevy squared away before I can take the Taco apart. It is so random when it doesn't want to start. It didn't want to start Saturday morning. I jacked it up crawled under and had Gina turn the key. Stupid thing started. And has been So I'm going to connect a light to the solenoid connector. That way I can tell if it's getting power or not when it plays it's game. Getting power it's the starter. No power Something upstream.

Been slowly working on the tool boxes. Only been able to poke at it here and there due to time with everything going on. I have most tools moved over, just have a few to decide what to do with and a few misc things.

When I did mine I rearranged it three times before I got it the way I wanted it.

In with the new
Wow, that's different. Â
For a 120 bones it's pretty comfy. The old chair the cushion is soft and doesn't support my back as well as the new one does. I may redo it and sell it or just dump it. I have two of them.

Due to weather on Saturday I couldn't work on he Chevy to much. Doesn't seem to be getting power to the starter. I checked and swapped out relays and that didn't do any good. Neutral safety switch I'm not sure of. Tried testing a couple of the wires and not really sure what goes to the starter. I do have 3 that get power when the key is turned to start and die when in the run position. I have one with power all the time when key is in run position. Before I went that rout, the truck wouldn't start in any gear I put it in. That's as much as I got done due to the weather and I had to get the yard cleaned up. Was looking pretty sad after all the rain

Talking to the buddy with the Vega, I told him I wished I had my Chevelle and or my Nova back. SOOOO much easier to work on and fix than this computerized BS we have to deal with now. Really makes it tough on us shade tree weekend warrior wrench benders.
Engineers need to work on what they designed after 3 years in service. I bet they would change their thinking.

Well, finally got the machine going, found out I had the wrong servo motor, called Consew and got an exchange, then had to change pulleys to slow it down, the balance wheel and motor were almost 1 to 1, stupid thing would take off like a Pro Mod. So I put the smallest pulley I could get on the motor and a 7" on the machine, now it has torque and it crawls. But I was talking to a guy that is heavy into leather and he said that I may want to go even bigger if I decide to get into heavy and thick stuff, but I gotta get used to this thing first, this is all new to me. First thing I gotta do though is detail the pulley and Plast-Dip it so it don't look like something that came out of a washing machine.

I would say you slowed it down. Sewing with one of these is like off roading with a clutch. You do a lot of clutch sliding to get the speed you need and feness to get what you want. Will take some getting used to for sure. Using the belt wheel helps a lot with tight or small movements.
