As soon as I got home yesterday I went out and turned him on. He was able to stand up on his own. The water looks to have drained out so I left him on with the sun shinning on him. I checked about 2 hours later and he seemed to be dried out. I set the timer for him to stay on until 9:30.   :good

Pulled the cover back on the boat to find the carpet soaked from all the rain.  :banghead  Pulled that up to let dry. Then fired it off.

Worked on cleaning up the garage from the bathroom extravaganza. Trailer is close for a run to the dump that will have to wait for the weekend after Christmas.

Brand new carpeting too, that sucks.

Been trying to keep busy inside since it's so cold out, did some cleaning up in the shop and got the tranny all cleaned up, now I need to figure what parts I need to build it. :good

Looking like more rain next week so I'm going to just pull the carpet out. I'll roll it up and find a winter home for it for now.

Whats this tranny for and what tranny is it?

Nice part about snap in, probably should have taken them out when you first parked it. :laugh

It's a 4L60E(a freebie)getting rid of all the electronics(only one wire for the lock up)and make it full manual, but this time I'm not using the Transgo kit, just gonna re route fluid flow(it's free)and do some different upgrades, make it even more fun to drive, it'll go in the Nova, I'll put the one in there now in the short bed, it needs an overdrive big time. :good

Cool!!!  :good   That's one thing I haven't played with is the internals of a tranny. This 4l80E in the chevy drives me nuts with it's random sloppy shift. Even when it does shift nice I would like just a little more firmness. I'm not looking to put my head in the tailgate, just so I feel it more and more consistent shifting firmness. When in tow/haul it's better but still at times sloppy. Been this way the whole time I have had it. OH and the random neutral drops that I haven't seem to get anyone to tell me what that issue is as well. It's all probly is related.

There's really nothing hard about them, the 4L80E is a TH400 with overdrive, bad part is they are electronically shifted by the computer, yours sound like a lot of miles and dirty, what color is the fluid?, has the filter been changed, solenoids could be acting up too??.

It's been this way since about 15k mlles. Went back to the dealer 2 times for them to look at. Both times they said they updated the firmware . Both times it was fine for about 12K miles. Last time was just before it went out of warranty. Changed the filter and fluid when I had it out of the truck 3 years ago. Roughly 15k miles ago. Pan had a little sediment in the bottom. Nothing more than what I have seen in it the two times prior when it was serviced.

And the fluid was nice and red when you changed it??. Any black $hit in the pan??, Sounds likr electronic issues though, you could put a Transgo shift improver kit in it, would make it shift better eliminating slippage, shift timing is in the computer though.. Did I tell ya that I HATE fkn electronics. :banghead  :laugh

I don't like electronics as well. Won't be long these cars and trucks will have an issue and drive them self's to the shop to get fixed. If the shift can be firmed up via the computer I would try that if someone would/can do it. I thought about a transgo kit, just never have done one and wasn't sure how the computer would handle it.. Fluid was still red when I drained it. There was a little sentiment in the pan, not to bad. I read somewhere that guys have replaced the servo's with corvette ones. Not sure how that works.

This thing has 157K on it now. I have been thinking about picking up a tranny and rebuilding it. Doing whats needed to improve the shift and putting it in.

Yep, electronics suck that's why I'm looking for a round eye so  can get rid of this 89..

Computer has nothing to do with the firmness of the shift, all it does is shift it and control total line pressure from idle to full throttle, a kit has to do with the flow and apply pressures, they are easy to install with easy to follow instructions and no need to take the tranny out, just drop the pan and the valve body. But with that many miles on it, it would be best to freshen it up it's getting tired that's why it's not consistent anymore, and a kit will make it live a lot longer. If I ever find a round eye with a big block or put one in I'll be doing a 4L80. :good There's no Corvette servo in a 4L80E, the only servo is for reverse as in the TH400, Corvette servos are used in 700R-4L60E's which applies the 1-2 and 3-4 band.

So my thinking would work. Find another tranny, rebuild and set it up like I want. Then take a day to swap them out. Same with the motor, it has to get more pony.

Yep, if you don't want down time that would be the way to go, just have to find a decent core. The engine could be a different story, if you have TBI(Swirl Port) heads they are the worst head that GM ever put out, they are strictly a smog head and a throw away item, if you want power you can put good heads on and a cam in but you'll have to send the computer in for a tune, or go aftermarket and tune yourself with a laptop.

All I know is this is an LQ4 6.0 with the Chinese dish piston(thats what I have been told) and has that Cold Start Knock. The research I have done is there are 2 6.0's The LQ4 and the LQ9. The 9 has a flat top piston, 4 has a dish piston. Other that that they are the same motor from what I can tell. Frankly I don't care what goes in as long as I don't have to do any surgery to  get it in and it has more pony/grunt for pulling.  :D   :laugh

Ahh, you must have a newer one, those are a different world that I'm not really interested in getting into, I'll stick with the simple world of big and small blocks, mostly big blocks. :good  :laugh

Here ya go, build away it's only money.. :D

Interesting read. I have been wanting to put shorty headers on and cat back. Looks like a head swap is a way to go as well as intake. If I remember I think the rockers are 1.7 and heard guy's going to 1.8. Been quite a while since I saw that so I'm not certain on the numbers. I'm game for simple bolt on's if they work. 10 years ago I put the K&N intake on it. I did feel a difference in pulling but not in mileage.

Well, if you're looking for torque you need long tube headers, shorties kill torque on the bottom end and move it more up top, heads and a cam are always the biggest power add on also the easiest, increasing rocker arm ratio makes your cam bigger and depending on the profile, increasing on the exhaust only will wake it up quite a bit without losing torque on the bottom end, of course you gotta be careful with the add on's to comply with the bull$hit smog crap. :rolleyes

Oh I know. I wish I could get rid of most the smog crap. Some of it is worthless anyway. Also the computer won't like a lot of mod's as well.

Yeah that smog crap sucks, only way to get out of it is to move out of the county. Not a big deal on the computer you can send it out for a tune, but it's the add on's they have to be smog approved, if not they'll fail it right off the bat they won't even run it which is bull$hit, as long as it's clean that's all that should matter, more political bull$hit. :finger

I'm still alive. Barely  :laugh    Been down sicker than a dog with the flu. My 5 day weekend has turned into 12 days due to Doc's orders. I'm supposed to go back to work on Monday but we will see were we are. By the time I went to the Doc this past Tuesday, It was to late for all the quick kicks for flu. So I have to let it run it's course.
