Just got word I'm heading back home to work. Haven't confirmed, but it sounds like someone in IT tested positive for COVID or was in contact with someone that did.

I was on Facebook this morning and someone posted pictures of the back up heading towards Havasu from Parker at Big Bend. It was a line of parked cars as for as you can see. Not sure when the the picture was taken. I think this morning

Probably resurfacing, they been doing this for a while now, about time too there's some sections that are so bad it's a wonder you drop the suspension on the road.

I'm hearing schools staring back up mid July as well so maybe that will slow some things down. The person that took the pictures I saw was heading to Laughlin. I guess they were taking the scenic rout like most people.

Would like to try to get the boat to water this weekend and check out everything for leaks. I got my camera ready yesterday to poke around back on the transom inside. Maybe if all looks good maybe run it around for a bit. Need to get this gas out of it. Â

Yeah, you gotta be real careful if you don't run good gas it can make a real mess.
Got it all cleaned up, not the best but at least I can find the bolts and tell what size they are, would like it a lot cleaner but to do it right the body would have to come off and I ain't about to do that, and the fact that it's gonna be a daily driver and travel it'll get dirty anyways, but I won't have any leaks so it won't get all cruddied up. Got the tranny cleaned up and on the bench for a freshen up. today gonna start cleaning up the engine.

Thanks, it should be a nice ride and best of all "reliable", got the engine all cleaned up and found something I don't like to see, a tag riveted to the block with a number, that means it's a rebuild by one of those "fleet re builders", every time I look at the bottom end of those they are thrashed, I'm hoping this one won't be one of them, but if it is I'll just put the one from my dually in, it does have a lot of miles on it but it is still in good shape.

Reman's I don't like unless I know who did it and I watched. Some of these companies doing remans just do a half a$$ job at best. I would at least drop the pan and remove a couple rod and main caps and check crank end play. Pull the timing cover and see what cheap a$$ chain and gear setup they used. Or put that dually motor in for now and strip this one down and freshen it up at the least. Slug holes could be funnels also. Yea Dually motor in and this one to the shop for a deeper inspection.

I'm not getting much done today. Have a sinus headache to kill a horse. On top of that something burned pretty close and not helping matters when outside. Might be the fire down by PIR, but I don't think so. it's pretty strong here at the house.

I pulled the valve covers of and it's as clean as can be, checked the chain and there's barely 2* of play, this thing is new but yet it had enough grease and $hit all over it to be 40yrs old I don't get that and when it runs it's as smooth as can be, comp is up and all valves seal, pan and timing cover are coming off today, anxious to see what it looks like under there.

Well, just as I suspected from a fleet rebuilder, main bearings weren't too bad but couple rod bearings were bad and it looks like lack of oil, clearances are too tight also found a bad valve, tip was bad and probably would let go in less than 50mi, so I guess I'll dog out the one from the dually and get it ready to go in, I'll rebuild this one later after the Burb is on the road.

Glad you caught that valve issue. That would have made one big mess of that motor. I remember the 265 that was built for my '56 chevy. It was just a hair under .001 all the way through. I drove the potty out of that car and it ran like a clock. It was tight at first but finally loosened up after a couple years. Last time I drove that car it still ran great. Yes probly to tight, but it worked out. It's now sitting in CE's garage. Be interesting to pull the motor, yank the pan off and check it out. That may happen one of these days.

Another possibility was a dry start, I know it has been sitting for quite some time, like a few years and they never primed it first, I've seen that quite a few times before, but that valve told me right there that it needs to be torn down anyways.
Tighter clearances isn't really bad on a daily, in fact factory clearances are pretty tight, what's bad is running the wrong oil, pushing 20/50st oil especially when cold just don't work.
