My wife's old Land Rover D-1 was handed down to my daughter when she got her license a few years ago. As many (not all) wimmin do, she proceeded to thrash the vehicle properly  :beat

Washed it only when I "suggested" it, gassed it up with half the money I gave her for gas and spent the rest on who knows what..... :pissed

Never told me when she heard a strange noise....before it grew into something expensive! :banghead

But it held up OK and I got to keep it in the family so that I could take it off road occasionally when we go out to the desert. I did a few modifications of the years....a slight lift, more aggressive BFG all terrains, a brush guard (which came in hand when she popped a Toyota truck!  :eek )

And now I decided to take it to the CORVA Truckhaven Challenge in a couple of weeks and need to add a bit more armor.

I've ordered differential protectors and some heavy duty rock sliders. I think I'll pass on the front skid plate for now since the course isn't too radical and I'm told the big plate up front has a tendency to trap heat and it already runs a bit hot.

The bumpers will stay on for now (unless they come off during the event!  :laugh )

And I'm wondering if there are any other things I should do to get it ready for the poker run?  :stupid

I don't have a winch mounted, but I do have a very good retrieval strap and solid tow points front and rear.

Any suggestions?  :rolleyes

Take your time and have Fun. No matter how prepped you think you are, it will still be a learning experience.
If your already running warm, you might consider and electric fan

You should get hold of Sporting Wood, Jeff.

I was thinking about Jeff the other day when a buddy asked if I wanted to go up to King of the Hammers this year.

I did just replace the fan clutch and radiator, thermostat. I'm told these Rovers run a bit on the warm side.....maybe I should keep the A/C off?  :stupid  :laugh

Well, I'll turn it on for the downhills....damn automatic transmissions!  :beat

I don't want to go too overboard since it is my little girl's transpo at the moment. I offered to buy her a little gas saver car, but she loves being up high and I don't mind her driving around in a 6k lbs. tank.

It was rear ended by a Lincoln Navigator once....bent the tow hitch, that was it! The Navigator had to be towed away!  :laugh

I want to get my wife out there...if she digs it I may get a permission slip to build a car for us!  :jumpie

Can't wait to hear how that goes. :rotflmao

6 months building it and listening to her about how you have no time for her, not to mention that you have to spend $2 on her for every $1 you spend on the Toy.
As much easier to say "Hey Honey, look what I bought".

I hope I didn't scare my wife last night showing all the YouTube videos!  :laugh

I told her that I expected her to get behind the wheel for a portion of the run...at first she balked, but now I think she's really extra excited. Before she thought she was just going along for the ride.

The truck is in the shop right now getting all the fluid changed in the differentials and transfer case. Going to a bit heavier weight gear oil. Oil change with an over sized filter, check all the universal joints, etc. it should be good to go.

I just ordered up a HID conversion kit for the headlights. I am thinking about getting a CB for it. Maybe a handheld so I don't have to mount anything.

Anybody use one?  :stupid

OK, we're as ready as we'll ever be.....

Installed the differential guards and the rock sliders.....pictures forthcoming - it was very dark when I finished last night, not to mention raining!  :beat

Checked to see how it fit on the trailer last night as well...the track is much narrower than the buggy and it was tricky driving up the fixed width ramps  :eek

Picked up 4 - 10k straps, that oughta hold 'er. Now I'm just hoping the wind cooperates for the drive out there.  :good

Got an email from the camp last night saying that things were drying out.....I think that means they were out of beer!  :D

We had an awesome weekend!

Drove out in the pouring rain Friday afternoon. It stopped by the time we got there as the sun was setting.

When we woke up the skies were clear and we had a beautiful sunrise.

We lined up at the start with a bunch of tricked out Jeeps, some bikes and a handful of Rhinos. They only had about a 100 sign-ups due to the rain, but it was a pretty good showing.

The start was kinda slow and only got slower, so we peeled out and went and found our own excitement (understatement)

The plan was to come back later and run the course since we had until 4 to do it.

Those guys were just too slow for us and later we heard a couple of knuckleheads rolled - making it even slower! :beat

After splitting from the group we headed for the mudflows.....I found out what a 35 degree slope of mud was like... :eek  both downhill AND up...sorry no pictures it went by too fast and I certainly couldn't take any pictures and everyone else was too busy screaming.....and that was just the guys - the wimmin closed their eyes and held on for dear life!

We did get through and decided to take a real road back to camp.

Only one problem Telephone pole road was washed out in several places - by washed out I mean a four foot cut straight down in one spot with a short run through 2' of glue like mud.

here goes...well, there was no turning back!

We did go back and finish the Poker Run.....best I could do was three Jokers. One of the few things that made sense that day!

BUT - the kicker is, my buddy won the grand prize of 5 BF Goodrich tires any size up to 37". Was supposed to be either All Terrains or Mud Terrains, but the guy agreed to send him the Baja type he runs on his buggy.

I know he's still grinning today - so stoked! :good

So, now I get to fix what I broke...no biggy. Parts are on the way. Truck handled it great.....now I have the seal of approval to get a play toy so I don't break my daughter's wheels again!

:jumpie

Guess who else is stoked now!?  :stupid  :love  :laugh  :D

That's a stock photo - ours is identical, The RZR 4 Robby Gordon edition.

It was delivered last night and I'd bet a dollar to a donut that my daughter has in in and out of it several times this morning since she's off from school today!

It looks like an awesome ride from the video:
