The Coast Guard tag says 7 or 1200 lbs. but if you ski from the center the rope cuts you in half so you only get 4. three in seats and behind the driver he had a seat cushion made to sit back to back.

But you can still tow from the back the boat too right?

Right on  :good The reason I was asking is because I am going to sell the o/b and get something else this season. I am looking at either a direct drive ski boat or a opn bow jet (carrera). I am leaning towards the direct drive. If anybody has anything to say one way or the other I'd like to hear it. I have four kids that like to go in the tube. The wife and I like to ski and that's our main objective on the water. :good

Go with the direct drive if you're going to pull kids around, you'll be sorry as hell if you get a ditch pump. I remember when I pulled my kids a guy I knew bought a jet and after the first summer pulling his kids, he was ready to take a chainsaw to it, that boat went down the road real quick!.. :beat

This is a smooth water boat, you can run in rough water but it is hard on you and the boat. there are boats that are more of a vee bottom that have a little larger wake but better riding. stay away from the jet pulling the tube will kill you.

just my opion :D

Good luck

That's pretty much what I thought. The other thing I figured was that the direct drive would be better on gas. Thanks for the reinforcing info  :good

I was looking at opn bow Mastercraft and Malibu boats in the trader. Do you know of specific models that have some vee in the back?

Any of the newer wakeboard runabouts will ride better , they may have a tower on them, that would help your seating also. Those will all have more vee, but also more wake. Anything that is a pure slolom will have the flattest wake and need smoother water, but we have been trapped out in 40 mph winds and large waves and got back ok. most of the newer boats have so much bouancy it woud be tough to sink.
Also that boat is only 20' long.

Good luck :good

I'm not a jet guy, so I don't know?? but you still have the problem of not planeing the boat, thats the speed you need to go to wakeboard or tube, it 's not to get on plane  it's to be just off plane!

But I'm no expert :stupid  :stupid

it's all about the wake, and in a jet to dredge around is a 4500 rpm deal.

so if you want a jet get one but know what you are getting into.

if you want to plane and go fast trim tabs help but with a jet I think a place diverter or jetovator takes the place of tabs,

I think???? :good

If you are a skier get the direct drive. Plain n' simple. :good

It doesn't have to be a Tournament sanctioned boat (which are approx. 16 1/2' - 21';), allot of the ski boats out there aren't.

With a jetboat skiing behind the jet wash will eventually drive you nuts when you cross behind the boat.  :banghead

You can find some very clean later model Malibus and CorrectCrafts out there in the 30k range or under if you are lucky. I'd recommend an open bow so that you can put the kids up there and tow your skier from the center pole without lopping off any heads. :eek

Thanks, I was looking at ski boats. The other day I stumbled onto a jet thru a co-worker that was real nice for the $, but I am pretty sure I'd rather have a direct drive.  :good

They have lumped all of those style boats into a larger class by manufacturer calling it a runabout, not so much a Tournament or slolom boat but from the same companies with skiing or wakeboarding in mind, most of them by design don't dredge so they are more effiecent on fuel, but top speed my only be 45 to 51 mph on the top end.

hope that helps the cause :good  :D

Whats the deal with that???

I think a jet is the best to pull tube-ers because you can slide out the rear and really whip them...

Im curious to hear your reasons...  Im not saying that props are bad to pull tubers, but what are jets bad???

Hey guys...

Lets be a little fair here... I pull wakeboarders, skiers, tubbers, etc all day long behind my JET with no problems....  3200 RPM...  Just like with a prop boat, you can change the rpm to plane...

Now given that my jet is a 21' semi-v jet but It handles chop and pulling with ease...

And I have a Place diverter and I dont even have to changeit pulling..  Just leave it full down and you get a bigger wake for wakeboarders...  Neutral and you are set for tubbers
