Well, even as cold as it's been lately, I've gotten a little work done. I've turned my attention to the trailer, and finished hacking that god-awful rear bumper off. Ground what was left of the welds off so the channel is smooth again... probably the first time in 20 years! Looks SO much better the way it was originally. I'm laying out the taillights and started mounting the markers..... first the 3 center markers since this trailer is like a v-drive trailer and is boxed so the steering fin can clear the trailer. Looks kinda cool having smoked markers on a black trailer  I always replace the bearings and seals on a trailer when I buy one. One thing I DON'T want to do is eat a spindle at 1 in the morning in the middle of East Bumphuck. Kinda bums out the trip. On other trailers this has not been a problem. On THIS one, it's original 1969 and things have (apparently) changed since then. The bearings and seals aren't normal trailer parts and it took me hours to even find them listed anywhere. I ordered the bearings online last night from the only place that listed them, and will be ordering the seals (old style made from leather) in a few days. No pics yet.....

Well, the weather was so bad I thought I'd get a little work done on the trailer. I got one taillight hole cut and will get the other done tomorrow. With the cav plates on it'll be harder to see them, but I think it's still legal

I think you will be OK. Once you stand back and look I think the lights will show just fine with the plate on.

Well, I'm off to the river for the weekend, but things have changed. I have a decision to make, and neither option I have is real appealing. I have another project that will be arriving in April, and I have no room for it. The decision is to either sell the Stevens before I ever get it wet, or leave it out at the river with only a cover to protect it (I really hate when I see people doing this). The Advantage is under the carport and will stay there, so unless I can pull a rabbit outa my hat, the humane thing to do is sell the Stevens. Any interest in a true flatbottom jet that's nearly new?

I may be able to get it wet once, but that would be at Moabi in April, and it's real tempting to just tow it 45 minutes more to the Shack and leave it there. If I can find a REAL DEAL on one those portable garages, I might keep it, but the ones I've seen are too pricey.

Well, it was another crappy weekend and the lousy 70 degree days made it tough to get work done, but I prevailed. The other taillight is now mounted and the new wheel bearings and seals and installed, so it can roll. The next 2 things to do are get the new fenders (the polished stainless is out of the budget) so we can weld on new step and fender supports, and find someone that handles 10 foot long pressure treated 2x4' for new bunks. Originally, I was going to use the same carpet for the bunks as was used in the boat, but after thinking about it, I want to totally black out the trailer and draw the focus to the boat.

Things are moving along. I have the polished cav plates back, got the wood for the bunks, the new fenders are here, the teak is ripped into slats for the steps, and now it's time to start wrapping this thing up. This weekend I'll be removing the nozzle, plate bases, exh tips, etc, and colorsanding and buffing out the transom. I have to get this done before I can start the final assembly, so it's time to get messy. The bunks will be the last thing 'cuz I don't want to F them up when I'm colorsanding Â

Spent the day colorsanding... and sanding... and sanding....and I'm a damn mess, but there IS hope for the Stevens! Finished buffing the transom, so now I can reassemble everything and move on to the trailer. Doesn't look like the rest of the buffing will be that big of a deal. It WILL be at Moabi next month!

Here's a few pics to show the plush seating and amply legroom. The rear seats apparently were an afterthought.

I realize that all the ballers run duals on the trailer, but I think you might be trying to hard... |
I thinking that it would be hard to haul the spare like that.

LOL! Yah, there's a good reason I did that. I've kept the boat under a generic cover on a crappy looking trailer so it wouldn't attract attention from thieves. The "dual" wheels are the original crappy ones over the Halibrand knockoffs so it keeps the crappy look. Unfortunately, as I finish this thing up it's harder to keep it looking bad. Once the teak and polished stainless is on it with the new fenders, the jig is up. I'm looking for one of those (cheap) enclosed portable garages so I can keep it at the Shack. If that works out, I'll keep it for a while.

It's not a matter of THINKING when, I KNOW it'll be at Park Moabi April 20-22nd. That's why I'm bustin' balls to finish it up. Let's see.... wrap the wiring harness, plumb the fuel tanks, remove all the gauges so I can colorsand and buff the dash (there's that sanding thing again), weld new step supports on the trailer, mount the teak side steps, mount and paint the new fenders, wire the trailer, install the trailer lights, make new bunks, THEN buff out the rest of the hull. After all that, take it to Moabi and HOPE it runs!

Well UPS showed up with stuff I needed, so I knocked out the fuel system tonight! Tomorrow is wrapping the harness and buffing out the dash... that'll pretty much take care of the interior. Seal the nozzle and transom plate tomorrow night, then it's more friggin' sanding and buffing to finish the hull.

Well, here's the deal. There isn't enough time to do the trailer, so that'll have to wait. It's roadworthy, I just have to mount the lights and wire it, just not enough time to mount the new fenders and tek, but no biggy. Pulled all the gauges, helm, reverse lever, and ignition to buff the dash, and it came out awesome! Been colorsanding and buffing like a maddog and I just have the left side to do and it's done. As I said before, it WILL be at Moabi in 3 weeks! SO, that said, I won't be posting any more pics until after Moabi. The difference between what we started with and how it is now is startling. It'll make a better before and after with the final pics on the water (if it doesn't sink)
