Quote (maddogg20 @ Jan. 08 2008,4:47 pm) | so I can run the engine cold as heck as long as I keep my oil temp nice and cool? lol im not used to that hehe. |
No you don't want cold oil, you want it to be 180-210. Water can be whatever but it won't run that cold, and if you're using logs you should go thru the logs first to pre heat the water!..

Quote (Havasu Doug @ Jan. 08 2008,5:08 pm) | Sometimes with old jet boats, sand has built up in the block if it has been run in shallow water. Â |
Doug, back in the 80's I picked up a few jet boats dirt cheap because of that, one was a super clean Southwind with BBF, they took in to the dealer and told them the motor was shot and it would cost a ton to fix it so they sold it, took it home and yanked the motor knocked the freeze plugs out and it was solid, don't know where they used it but it was filled right up with mud no sand, I had to hook a hose from the hot water heater over night to soften that stuff up, got it all cleaned up put it back in and ran it, the thing ran like a charm and never got over 140 no matter how hard you ran it, made a good dollar on that one!..

OHH MAN!!! I managed to get the freeze plugs out, which turned out to be quite a pain in the A$$ and go the hose out and started hosing the plug holes out. I had solid clumps of dirt coming out and brown muddy sand. heck, when I pulled the drivers side head drain plug no water came out I had to stick a screw driver in there and shake it around. I collected all the sand that came out. I had a little under 1/2 a gallon of dirt in it. I bet itll run alot cooler now ones its back together, not to mention spit the little bits of sand and dirt that I didnt get out, for weeks to come lol. Thanks for the advice fellas.

I would flush out the block completely, those little bits of crud will end up in the dump lines/logs and plug things up, especially if you're running water injected headers, and there's a lot more in there than you'd think!..

Quote (WATERDOG @ Jan. 08 2008,4:30 pm) | Freeze plugs are cheap. Sand can be very expensive. Flush it once, Flush it twice, then Flush it again. If in doubt repeat. When you think all the sands out, Flush it again. |
BTW, When your finished, Repeat all previous steps.

is there any chemical that I can run thru the engine to help loosen the remaining crap. I put a lil CLR in it yesterday and let it sit for 1/2 an hour and it really didnt seem to do much.

No it's just mud and sand, CLR is good for alkalye and stuff. All you need to is flush it out, stick the hose in every water opening in the block so it can be back flushed, go round and round until all the crap is gone, it will take a while but if you have access to hot water it will speed things up a bit!..
