Maybe Eddie Hill's Eliminator is still for sale, looked like a nice cruiser. |
Yeah, that is a good boat, thought it was sold though!.

Well, here's the split case I picked up to replace the C-500, it's just a core got it for $300, assuming the insides are all junk it's still a good deal!..
First surprise, the top bearing must come out first due to shaft angles, and is a piece a cake with a puller, but some moron used a bearing without the snap ring groove so it was impossible to pull the bearing, so I had to destroy the cage and made a hook and used a slide hammer to beat it out!..
Second surprise, just frikkin beautiful,LOL, oil is about 30yrs old and bearings are all toast, and probably the same moron used some kind of adhesive on the case gasgets, what a bitch getting it apart, and now the clean up!...
Done deal, all new bearings shafts were all good, made a new plate since the old one had too much material trimmed off to fit in the cruiser, just love it when it says .375 and it's actually .387 thick, the old plate was .372 thick so that was a PITA to set up, but I got it all stacked up right anyhow!.. Once mounted it will be trimmed accordingly!..

That's .015 more than it should be, but the old plate was only.372 and the old 3 case gaskets were .005 thinner than the new ones, now you add all that up and things get too thick, when I put the top bearing in on the front the groove to pull it was buried and still not bottomed out on the shaft. For a minute I thought maybe I'd have to mill the cases, but I got away with just using 1 thin gasket on each side, and adding 2 cap shims, so it worked out good!..

Thanks, it was a PITA and took a bunch of time, but it was mostly my fault I assumed the plate was what it said it was and the same as the old one, If I'd a measure it all up first it would have save d a bunch of time!. As they say don't assume anything!..

Probably right. I've gone through more than one  "Made in China" manifold trying to gety one that was right.   Get what you pay for. (usually).  |
Yep, sure do!..
