I am getting ready to build a 383 blower motor for my Carrera Elite 20.5 and need to know if I can use aluminum heads for the lake and river trips with no ill effects? I understand the reason for iron heads but does that same method apply to fresh water?

Aluminum is fine for lakes and rivers. And alot lighter.

I would recommend hard anodized aluminum heads for the River or the possibility of running in brackish water. ie. The Delta.

You'll be happier in the long run.  :good

Iron heads can make more power due to heat retention, but nothing wrong with the aluminums!. As DS says though, get them hard anodized to prevent corrosion, they will corrode even in fresh water!...

BTW, welcome to Doug's place!..  :good  :beer

Sweet. So I'm all good with aluminum! Any idea who hard anodizes the heads?

Don't know anybody in your area, but I used this place for a long time and were great. But it's been a while and I heard someone else is running the anno department, but might give them a call and see what they say!.. :stupid
