Hey KC, why don't you go over and talk to Larry Peto, I think his shop is called Larry's Engine Service. I've known him since the 80's we both raced with NJBA, he's a cool guy and he does damn good work!.. :good

Larrys very cool, I've been in and out of his place a few times over the last 25yrs, just alittle out of my budget.
I found a 40 over 454 2bolt with all the parts to put it together and resized rods for $600, The crank is turned 10 on the mains and 30 on the rods. I'm a little weary of the 30 on the rods   :confused

Yep, Olds and Ford have bolt on pickups, Chevys are pressed on, I've also had those come loose too. I safety wire those bolt on ones. The Chevys, I use "Locktite Bearing Race Retainer", the green stuff!, you'll destroy the pickup taking it off!. :eek  :good

Hate to tell you this but that pickup is supposed to go on tight so it don't suck air or fall off!.. :laugh

And with the right tool, it goes on lickety split!.. :D  :good

Huh... :stupid  That's kind of odd...mine (ford) has a bolt on type of bracket on the screen end but the pump end of the pick-up tube into the pump just kind of slid in loosely (sounds like a personal problem,eh  :rotflmao ) so I JB welded the mofo just to make sure...been good for 2 plus years... :good

Yep, he's not cheap but you get top quality work!. I think I said it before, there's a big difference between custom and production. Just the way the machines are setup makes the difference, in production shops those machine don't get checked very often and the minimum wage monkeys that operate them don't give a rat's ass about them and just thrash the shit out of the machines so the tolerances just go out to lunch. I've used both and let me tell ya, when I check the numbers man, do they ever butcher things up and it's a downright shame too!.. :angry

Man, that's a hell of a deal for $600. :confused Do you know the history of it?, is there a mag ticket on all that stuff?, how straight is the crank?, why is it for sale? :eek .Please, I'm not trying to be a smart ass here and discourage you but I been down that road before and got burnt on deals like that and it bit me in the ass big time, just want you to be aware and do your homework. I know this is been a real bitch for ya and you want to get this going again, but I'd hate to see ya put out money and just have it turn to shit again!. As far as the crank goes, you're not turning 7500 with a blower, don't worry about  .030 under, heck that just slows down the bearing speed!. :peace

Well that depends on what you mean by aftermarket?. Yeah, there are custom high dollar pumps that have that but they are not your everyday aftermarket replacement and  also they will only fit their custom pans!..

I just figured that if they made those thing for an Oldsmobile of all things, that they would have 'em for Chevys as well.

See, I learned something today.  My day is complete... pass me another beer. :D  :beer
