I have been having trouble with my boat lately. :angry  I have no idea what it can be.  :confused I can go out and not have any problems with it. Lately it seems I can be cruising and all of the sudden my alarm starts to beep. I shut it down. I've noticed that it is my temperature that is setting it off. I have cleaned every possible hose on it. It still seems to do it. I can re-start it and it starts woriking properly. I completely lost and don't know what to do. :banghead  Anyone have a good Marine shop here in the valley I might be able to take it to. :good

When was the last time you had the water pickup impeller replaced or t-stat (if you have one in)?

The sea pump impeller I just replaced when I bought the boat. Back in May. Thermostsat I have been going back and forth sometimes I don't run to see if it helps and sometime I use one. :confused I have take the sea pump off and checked it to see if the impeller just might have shredded. Still look good.

I wonder if at some point a impeller failed, and when they replaced it, they didn't backwash the broken parts out?? :stupid

Sounds like sticking T-stat, takes a lot of heat to pop it open the first time then it works until it sits again for a while, might want to run a test on the stove after it sits for a while!.. :stupid

I would replace it too, but I'd still run a test on the old one, just to satisfy curiousity!.. Of course it would be my luck that it work pefect then!.. :laugh

I have replaced it with two different ones. Maybe I will test it and see, but I don't think I could have gotten two bad ones. As for flushing the system out I have done it repeatedly. Thats why I know I need to install a sea strainer as well. This last time I made sure every hose was clean. When it happened again I took some hoses off and started it up to check and make sure we were getting water thru the whole system. :banghead  :confused

Your dump, from where ever the water exits the motor to the headers/logs, or what ever you are using, if there's a restriction somewhere it won't allow the water to flow, it's a process of elimination, start from the pickup and work your way to the outlet where it goes back to the lake, you'll find it somewhere along the route!..

BTW, what is your temp when the alarm goes off!.. :stupid

That's a good guestion. Also add, is it only happening when running it hard or just after so many minutes at any speed?

I gotcha.  :good  I will definitively  have to check that. As for the temp it gets to about 195 to 198 somewhere in there. And to answer Waterdogs question, It seems only to do it when I'm cruising. Once I get on plane and start running. It seems to only do it then. I have yet to encounter it when I'm just idling thru a no wake zone or just sitting there idling. Usually it seems I'll be doing anywhere between 35 mph to 55 mph. :confused

I know you've said you flushed the system, but have you back flushed it?? There may be debris in the oil cooler or other places. Another questio, Is it a closed cooling system??

Yeah I have backed flushed it. When I bought it I went thru it  pretty good. The oil cooler was full of sand. I went thru it with a coat hanger making sure that all the holes were cleaned out. No it is not a closed cooling system. :confused

Somethings been missed. Gotta be an obstruction or blockage somewhere. Running out of options fast. Maybe the temp sending unit. How hot does that motor feel?

Well from what you're saying here that eliminates the T-stat, you have a restriction in the flow somewhere and you need to find it, if it's on the outboard end it could cause excessive pressure in the motor, and that can end up with a milkshake and replacing gaskets!. :eek Where you at?, you can't be too far from me, if you get stuck maybe you can drag it over and I'll take a look at it, should be able to find it!.. :good
