Personally I would never run a boat motor that hot unless it was thru a heat exchanger, worst thing is cold lake water going into a hot block, I have seen blocks crack before because of that. Oil temp is what's critical not water temp, oil needs to be 185-210 to do it's job, but with water at 195 oil temp can go to the moon when running hard even with an oil cooler unless it's overkill, a cool motor also acts like an oil cooler as the oil drains back to the pan. I just let the water flow with no restrictions, water would stay around 140 while cruising and pulling skiers, oil would be around 200, running laps at 7500 it would get up around 160 and oil about 215!. In the summer it's not too bad but if you go out in the winter and spring when the water is still cold, that's when it's not too good!.. But that's just me!.. :rolleyes

I run both Water and Oil Temp gauges. Really only concern myself with the Oil Temp gauge. Yep, what GFR said. Just my 2 cents.  :)

Presitge got it done. It was indeed a blockage. Two small impellor pieces, one 1/2x1/2, the other 1/2x3/4, both right at the end of the feed hose going into the thermo housing. Made a speed run to the dam and that temp needle never moved.  :jumpie

Great news WD. :good  What kind of temp are you running? I've been having some good luck with mine as well. Took her out yesterday and my needle barely moved as well. Ended up having to tow a buddy back as well thing ran like a champ. :jumpie  :beer

Stays at 165 at idle and just under 170 at WOT, even for the long runs. Mileage went up too. Running it at lower temps told the "computer" that the motor was cold so it was running way rich.

I'd say that's great news too. Kinda cramps your style when trying to spend a day out knowing the boat ain't right.

I just got back home last night. I'm supposed to be unloading the van right now. Told the wife this AM as she was going to work, that I wasn't gonna unload it as we might be going back sooner than planned.

Certainly makes a day on the water nicer knowing it's all working. Still pissed off that a impeller cost me $900 bucks.

Acually I didn't. Started with full tank and drive it for two days and left it empty. Probably another mistake. Now I gotta fill it 4th of July. That's gonna hurt. Then I gotta buy beer. Figure by the time I get to the ramp, I'll have enough beer in me to forget about the fuel. Of course by then I won't be able to drive the boat either. Not to worry, this trip I'm talking two DD's.

Be carefull if you go to Canyon.  Had a friend find a length of barbwire underwater that had a nice size 2x4 at the end of it. Needless to say they came to a screeching halt and thrashed a prop.
