I have a Mercruiser Alpha 1 GEN II drive with a 5.0. Controller I have now is the Commander 3000. I have been having issues with it and may have curred most of it but still may have to replace the controler. I have run accross MANY threads on sites about the recalls and discontinuing it and issues repairing if the parts are available. My question to you folks is:

If I were to replace this, what would a good replacment be in a single handle that has trim, trailer and engine kill switch? I have also been told that cables MUST be replaced due to the ones for the 3000 do not interchange with anything?  :stupid  Was I having smoke blown up my wazoo???

I'm still investigating the cable thing but wanted your input on the shifter.

Thanks Folks!!  :D
