Mark is highly competitive...so maybe the fact that he needed to do more research and shopping around finally sunk in so he doesn't end up getting screwed and looking like a moron (with me telling him, "I told you so!" of course ).
Anyhoo, he's looking at a few other boats now and emailed me this question today:
Quote | Another question for your boat friends. Do deck boats use a lot more gas than sport boats? We are also looking at a chaparral Sunesta 216. Sport boats are chap 204 and 210. |
Have I told you lately that I love you guys? Thanks for putting up with me and my questions. |
Glad to hear he didn't buy it, that thing is a project probably why he was selling it!.. |
Weeeelllll.....supposedly he was selling it because they are moving and will no longer be on a lake...but I kinda wonder if he was taking my bro for a ride. Mark's certainly not stupid but he's also not exactly boat savvy, never having owned one. He's a pretty tough negotiator though, so that will help him. |
He probably won't be moving the boat without a trailer. Watch for that one to drop in price fast as his move date gets near. If it's still there when your brother sees them packing, that would be a good time to make an offer. |
Yeah, with cash in hand!..

Good thinking! I'll pass on all this info to him, but I have a feeling he wont' want to wait too long, they want a boat for the summer. And I want him to have it by the time I get there!
I talked to a friend from GA today and he said the Oconee is the only lake in GA not affected by the drought, so that's good news there.
Hmmm, I wonder if my bro would hire me to be the caretaker for his new place?

I have a SeaRay 210 Sundeck with the 5.0ltr and a Alpha 1 Mercruiser drive. Running around and just cruising it does real good on fuel. There are times it potty's me off cause we didn't use the fuel I was wanting to use. Throw a tuber or a ski'r out there and of coarse the fuel usage will go up. It's all in what your doing and how you drive it.
Just my .05 worth and my experiance with my boat.
My theory is. The bigger the hole(cylinder) the more you have to feed it.

The flatter the bottom is the rougher the ride will be in any condition other than smooth water, a V bottom cuts through the rough stuff and cushions the ride and saves on the kidneys!.

And the saga continues...just got a VM from my bro. They decided against the smaller boat they were looking at...a good call I think. Now they've added another one into the mix and he has a couple of engine questions...which is out of my realm completely. I guess he's looking at one with 260hp 5.0 vs 300hp 5.7. While both my brother and I can ski, I'm not sure my SIL ever has (although she's a terrific athlete so I'm sure she'll pick it up quickly). I haven't skied in years, not since I tore up my leg on a less than spectacular wipeout in snowmelt at Donner. So no one in the family is too skilled at this point, and the kids will be beginners. I expect more tubing and wakeboarding than skiing, at least initially. Would the 300hp be overkill in their case? What's the difference in fuel economy given the uses I described?
He's also looking at wakeboard towers. Given the same scenarios, do the towers make it easier to wakeboard, tube, ski, whatever than not having one?
I really think bro owes me a plane ticket so I can enjoy the dang boat once he gets it..I've got more than a vested interest now. I should be billing him for my research time.
He's without an internet connection at the lake but I can call if we need clarification on anything. Thanks again for the help.
