One more cool thing for batteries:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymot....ewitem=

The Only Thing With That Is, Everything May Loose It's Memeory Settings.....

What's worse.....lose memory settings or no cranky at all?  :stupid

If the battery goes dead you lose the settings AND can't start 'er up.

I would have that problem on the boat when I disconnect the battery for storage....until a buddy clued me in on how to wire an auxiliary battery to keep the pre-sets alive on my radio. The radio memory draws about 5-6 milliamps. A typical "transitor radio" battery is about 500-600 milliamp-hours so its only good for about 100 hours.

Electrically, it all works fine. Its just a matter of how long you need it to last. I use a 5 amp-hour (5,000 milliamp-hours) battery now, so it lasts about 30-40 days without a recharge. I removed the vertical diode, so it gets recharged whenever I turn on the main battery switch. (don't remove the vertical diode if your battery is not rechargable)

Or, you can run a direct line to the battery if it remains in the boat with the switch set to "Off". The draw is so small it won't run it down.

Here's a cool little gizmo to keep the memory alive on a short term basis  - while working on the car or boat:

My wife's car is all electrical...radio, seats, mirrors, all have memory. I'm going to snag one of those and put it in the glove box. I hate having to re-set the security code on the anti-theft stuff.  :beat

Thanks to all of you who have been posting on this subject.. Of course I am toally confused and I hope detailed instructions come with the pieces I am going to get.. I bought the 'Battery Brain' and I think I am going to buy the 'Starting Isolation Automatic Charging Relay'...and I am going to keep the Perko Switch I have which has 1/2/ALL and Off.. What I think I want is to wire the starter, trim, bilge pump and the engine cover lifts all to the #1 Battery. The Stereo and Amp will go to the #2 Battery. I am guessing the 'Battery Brain' goes on the #1 Battery. The ACR links between the two batteries.  I am reading conflicting ways to use the Perko Switch and I am lead to several questions. If while running the engine I want to charge both batteries would I have the Perko on ALL and the two batteries connected at the Neg. posts?  When I am docked and want to run the Stereo alone and not draw any power from the #1 battery should I turn the Perko to #2?  When I start the engine after being docked do I turn the Perko to #1 or to ALL? Or can I leave the Perko on ALL all the time and the ACR will take care of the rest and I will have no need to worry about having no fully charged battery to start the boat? Or, should I jsut skip the ACR all together and just do the #1 and #2 switching as described...? Probably way to many questions !! Sorry guys !!

Well, some like electrical stuff me I detest it, to me it's just something to take a $hit when you least need it to, so if it was me all I would use is the Perko, 1-2-all, just have to remember to switch it over to the appropriate function!. That's the way I'm gonna do it in my cruiser, but that's just me!..  :rolleyes

Perko all by itself has always worked for me. And unlike the ad above, when switch is in both position, both batt's do indeed charge. When it says both, it means both, wether they be charging or discharging.

I Usually Start And Run Mine On "All", Then If I Play The Stereo, I Switch It To "2", Which Leaves One Battery Off Of The System 'Til I'm Ready To Go.

Oh crap, I've been setting here hours scratching my head, pulling hair out, probably drew up 20 schematics with one, two, and three batt systems, with and with-out on-board chargers. "What in the hell is he talking about". I was starting to think I got dumb again, that old timers crap strikes when least expected. I've got something you can K.I.S.S.  :ass
