Is the City ramp directly across the lake from Crane's open on weekends this time of year? Â I'm concerned about the shallow entry at Crane's. Â What about that ramp by the old "Elsinore Princess" boat? Â I launched there about a year ago and it seemed like a good ramp. Â What do you recommend? Â I'd rather leave my gas-guzzling 4x4 at home and launch with my 2 wheel drive truck. |
Doug,
the city ramp has been closed for almost two years due to low water - but it may be open now. I will drive by it today to see - but I hate the city ramp - too steep, on the windy side of the lake, and usually full of kunckle heads - no pun intended kuckle head! LOL
Elsinore Marina is right around the corner to Cranes and has one of the best ramps. LERA (Lake Elsinore Recreational use Area) is just past Jack In The Box on the same side as Elsinore Marina and also has a great ramp and good channel. I only use these two ramps. LERA does not hit you for $ for more than 2 people in your car.

Thanks for the info Frank,
I got used to using the city ramp in the early 90's because it was very easy for anyone coming "boatless" to meet us there on that city beach. It is very narrow though and the winds in the late afternoon sometimes make for a challenge when pulling the boat out. The last ramp I used was Elsinore Marina and I liked it. I'm not sure if I ever used the LERA ramp, but I know I used one on the North side other than Elsinore Marina. Either of those sounds good to me though.

City ramp is still closed. Need about 5 more feet for it to be usable. I agree - I had all the people we took on the boat meet us at the city ramp. Free parking, long dock, and a bathroom.
Elsinore Marina is a great launch ramp, except before the rains, their channel was very narrow and only a couple feet deep.
LERA - Just got running in the last year or so- was the old State Park. Their ramp is just the opposite of the City Ramp. When the water gets too high, they shut it down-as the top of the ramp goes underwater. They have the best channel out to the main lake. It is 6 feet deeper than Elsinore Marina and 4-5 times as wide. But, they don't have as nice of facilities - out houses only near the ramp. Ramp is nice and wide, and they have two floating docks that are nice - but they have no padding or bumpers - just raw wood and metal. Can be tough on the Gel/Paint if bump it.
One other note - Elsinore now has two floating outhouses with two labratories on each. They are pretty nice! We do dock starts and roof starts off of them occasionally.
