As of March 4th, 2005, I'm retired.  This was my work truck.  Great truck too.  I was able make the tightest turns due to rear wheel steering controlled by the driver (me).

First of all, let me thank you for your many years of service to the community! :good

How does that "rear steer" work, with some kind of "joy stick"?

Thanks BB.  It's been a great career.  Still get to see my boys on a regular basis, but, I do miss the station life.

The rear steering works in coordination with the front wheels and is controlled by the steering wheel.  The driver can select several different "modes" via rocker switch on teh drivers dash.  One of the modes, the rear tires turn opposite the front tires enabling a really tight turn.  This mode pretty much lets the truck kndd of spin in a circle.  The only problem isthe back end, which sticks out about 8 feet from the rear axle, tends to swing really wide.  I remember one driver totalling a Jaguar in a parking lot that way.  He didn't even feel it, all he saw from his sideview mirror was the Jag being crushed.

ANother mode is a "crab" mode, allowing the rear wheels to turn in the same direction as the front wheels.  This enables the driver to make the truck drive in a sideways motion.  Looks really weird from outside the truck.

My rig carried all the heavy rescue shit too (Jaws, saws, rescue bags etc).  Funnest rig I've ever driven.  Damn I miss it

"Hmm," I think to myself but don't say out loud, "who is this Stingray guy and how did he get his stickers before me?  He must know someone at the post office. No wonder he keeps bugging me about pics of my ride. He's rubbing it in. He is now my nemesis."

Oh no, my inner voice has learned to type. :comp
