Well I do drive a FORD , but I don't pull a Chevy powered boat yet! The boat's FORD powered too! |
Well!! And here all along I was thinking that you were a pretty smart guy there Doug. Â Now I'm rethinking a bit.... Just remember, if it ain't a Chevy, it ain't real. Â

I bought my boat for $4,500 as it was a good deal. It just happened to have a 460 in it. I bought my '89 F-350 4x4 in '93 for $10,000, because it was there and I didn't want to pass on that deal. (I still have it BTW) I bought my last Ford 3 months before I found the boards not knowing there were so many Ford haters on here.

OK, I have a question.....Why do the Fords sell so well if they suck so bad....
I mean, come on, the f-150 is routinely the best selling vehicle in the USA, is it not???[B]
I am shopping for a new truck  (85 Ford Bronco here) and I like both the new Cheby's and the Fords...
I want the 4 door model with the lighter payload---like an F-150 Super Crew with the 5.4 L.
What is the Cheby counterpart?
Pros and cons???
Thanks for the help
(My boat is cheby powered)

Ask the guy sittin on the side of the road with the hood up! Seriously, I got nothing against either one, I just don't like this new shit, they seem to be getting uglier and they are being made so you can't fix them yourself and that sucks!. But, that's just me!. My neighbor hates my truck, he says it's better than his 02, don't know, I never rode in it!..

Basically other than one or two less springs in the rear, the GM 1500HD crew cab is a 3/4 ton truck, through and through.
I've stepped down from buying a diesel (getting other toys), so I've been looking at used F150 super crews/1500-2500HD crew cabs with the 6.0's.
As I still know the pre 03 GM 6.0's have the piston slap cold start knock, I've learned that many newer engines have the same problem and none (any brand) have blown up based solely on this occurence. GM is also giving out 6yr. /100k warranties to any owners who are uncorfortable with the noise.
The F150 would be the way to go for price as it's cheaper than the 1500HD but for towing, the GM is better as it is really a 3/4ton truck, if you tow over 6k pounds. I've had too many folks including my wife comment on how funny the 5.3 foot bed looks on the super crew. If you're a river traveler who does'nt haul much otherwise, I suppose it's alright, but that bed size rivals a ford Ranger. The mileage is suprisingly similar in general with the ford getting 1-2 miles per gallon over the GM. The trans temp gauge on the GM trucks is a nice addition. I'm leaning on the GM truck in this comparsion because I want at least a 6ft. bed. If you've had a crew cab before, you'd appreciate the rear floor A/C vents on the bucket seat configured GM's as well. Some very nice used Fords and GM trucks on the market now.
Jordy, I'm definately going diesel next time in 4 years! Long live the 6.5's!!/LOL

Brought my Tahoe into Showcase Chevy today for a complete service. Brakes, fluids, belts, filters, etc.... $900+ dollars damage! So I took a little stroll through the new burb section of the lot..... Found a great truck, 4x4, 4.10 gears, 496, leather, loaded.... bottom line - $53,000!!!! It was white, so I wouldn't have bought it, as I only buy black and red vehicles, but son-of-a-bitch over 50 grand for a truck!!! I guess I'll be putting $900/year into my Tahoe (which is been paid for) until it dies or is killed. Of course, I'd rather push my Chevy than drive a Ford!!!

Why? Â Does $300 in parts and $600 in labor sound high to you??? Â Â Don't forget tax, I was out of there at just under a grand!!!
I must say though, what ever they did to the injectors (clean and "reset" they called it) really made a differance. Â The truck has great pep again!!! I didn't really notice it had lost it, but from the moment I stepped on the gas, I felt the difference. The above price also included front brakes, and they cleaned out the pumpkin on the rear-end as well as flushed the tranny and a few other things. Â But still, A LOT OF FREAKING MONEY for maintance stuff that I could do on a SAturday (but would never get around to)!!!

Jason.....I hope ya didn't pay for the injector stuff....There's a TSB on the injectors for th 5.7 vortec and they warranty that shiznit for 100 or 200k miles.....I've had our Suburban cleaned up twice and a couple of injectors replaced....

Front brakes, unless you put new rotors and bearings and seals in, shouldn't have costed more than $15!. How much is a couple of quarts of gear oil $5??. Three or four quarts of fluid and a filter for the tranny $10!, $300????..$600 in labor, at $60 an hour, that's 10 hours work?????...BTW, are you driving a Freightliner??..

They checked it for the TSB Warrentee, it didn't qualify because it wasn't having the problems listed on the paper Chevy sent me.
As for Dealer Service it's a rip, no doubt about it, I knew that when I dropped it off. But when it's either that or let it fall apart, what are you going to do? I watch my kids all day (1 year and 3) so my wife can work, we don't pay any sitters. When she gets home, I leave for work. Our weekends are full of doing family things. Before the kids, I always did all of the service on both cars (and the boat). So I've saved that service money for many years, and know how cheaply it can all be done. These "good years" with the kids though, I'd rather just spend my time with them and pay to have the vehicles serviced. In a year of two, I'll be back to servicing the cars myself, and my son can help me.
