Quote (OBGYNKenobi @ Dec. 28 2006,10:42 am) | The other day whiler in Parker, we went for a drive out in the boonies, and ran across a fixer upper. We bought a 1940 Buick Super 8. Runs great, but needs restoration. Gonna go pick it up weekend after next. I'll post pics when I get it home. |
Finally got it home and got some pics of it. i paid $3500 for it, which is a steal. The car is completely original, except for the beautiful paint job  , and everything works, including the original 1940 am radio after the tubes warm up and quit humming. It blows no smoke at all through the exhaust, and only minimal amounts through the blowby tube. We call it "Barney" for obvious reasons, but I told my wife that I'm going to call it "J. Lo" after it's done due to it's big ass end! . I told my 10 y.o. daughter that I was going to drive it to pick her up at school soon, and her reply was "Daddy, please don't. Everyone will think you're a retard and they'll laugh at me". I replied, "I'll be thure an weah my hemet!". She didn't laugh!
Other than paint(obviously, Â ), this car is 100% original, and starts up and runs perfect. The only mechanical deficiency is that the shocks are worn out and there's lot's of body roll. I will be restoring it to showroom new looks, but updating the engine and drivetrain to a Buick "Nailhead" engine, Buick 400 trans and rear end. The biggest PIA is that I have to clean out my garage(which I have been doing for 3 days) to make room for it! My neighbors are just loving seeing my crap laying around in the driveway! Â

Notice the turn signal lever(small) on the right side with the "Three on the Tree"
Even though the buttons are gone, the am radio works after the tubes warm up and stop humming.
My favorite, an Engine Turned dash. I will definitely be restoring this feature to it's original.

Thanks! We call it Barney right now due to the puke purple, but after we get it done and she's painted darker, we'll call her J. Lo, since it's got a big ass! I am going to turn it into a restorod. I am doing the interior and exterior in original colors and materials according to the data plate, but I am replacing the straight 8 with hopefully a Nailhead Buick v8(if I can find one), TH400 trans, and late model rear end. I want the Nailhead instead of a GM crate motor to at least keep it all Buick. I hate when cars are restored and you find a Ford, Chevy or Chrysler product with a brand of motor. Mine won't bee 100% original, but it'll be 100% Buick. I couldn't believe the guy was selling it for $3500. I had to jump on it. I've seen the same year and model on eBay for $12K-$26K, with the $12K being a basket cast that was missing the drivetrain, half the hood, and one door.

Here's some new pics of the car. Z06? Viper? Porsche Turbo? Bring `em on, and bring cash. Like taking money from a baby! It's a high output, intercooled Whipple with custome tune.
