Quote (mspencer55 @ Aug. 03 2005,11:42 pm) | Ya know, there's a law prohibiting drinking & driving, it's been proven over & over that it's unsafe and causes deaths. There's also a law prohibiting overweight trucks. Do you think maybe, just maybe it's also been proven that overweight trucks are unsafe as well ? Bragging of hauling 152,000 lbs. is just wrong! The nerve of any truck driver, or dispatcher for that matter, to take it upon himself  (being the highly intelligent mental giants they are) to determine, on their own, that an extra 40,000 lbs. is NOT unsafe & routinely put that truck on the road, jeopardizing all those around him, you, me, my kids ect.  Imaging trying to stop 140,000 lbs. of rolling stock in order to avoid hitting the SUV that just blew a tire ahead of you. I hope your mother is not in that SUV. |
Let me explain something here, I'm not running an "illegal", overweight truck. I'm permitted to run this long, heavy combination in Nevada, Colorado, Utah, Idaho and 29 miles of Arizona. This weight is evenly spread on 34 tires (new, not recaps), 9 axles, between two 45' trailers, and I have no problem locking down the 18 individual brakes when it's deemed necessary.
I could go off on a long rant here, but I'll just bite my tongue.
