Ya know, there's a law prohibiting drinking & driving, it's been proven over & over that it's unsafe and causes deaths.
There's also a law prohibiting overweight trucks. Do you think maybe, just maybe it's also been proven that overweight trucks are unsafe as well ? :stupid
Bragging of hauling 152,000 lbs. is just wrong! The nerve of any truck driver, or dispatcher for that matter, to take it upon himself  (being the highly intelligent mental giants they are) to determine, on their own, that an extra 40,000 lbs. is NOT unsafe & routinely put that truck on the road, jeopardizing all those around him, you, me, my kids ect.
Imaging trying to stop 140,000 lbs. of rolling stock in order to avoid hitting the SUV that just blew a tire ahead of you.
I hope your mother is not in that SUV.

:angry are you kidding? read the thread. I think that rig is within the laws of the states he travels this is not "jurk off trucking " it is a high profile chain that must abide by all laws. you should get your facts in order before you make such ignorant statements. also I think the "highly intelligent mental giants " you are questioning may have a couple hundred thou. behind the wheel. as a CDL class A holder I take offence to your comments. If i'm wrong blast me on the boards :angry  :angry

Yeah that sucks, can you still start off in 4th low when you're maxed out? :eek How does it pull the hills with a 120,000lbs?? :stupid

Fully loaded I can start out in 3rd low and can pull a 7% grade at 35 mph grossing 120,000 lbs. :good

Not too shabby, huh? :D

that's a ton better than the guys climing up  Chiriaco Summit. I wish they ran that well. what are they thinking making a two mile an hour pass. :stupid

Well I take it you haven't got a clue about truckin huh, :laugh I've pulled that hill more times that you can shake a stick at, and when you're maxed out and you come up on a rig that's going slower and you back off it's all over with, that's why you'll see a rig passing real slow, he's got it to the wood and that's as fast as he can go. And no matter what speed it is wheter it's 35mph or 50mph a two mile an hour pass is the same!.. :)

yes I do :rolleyes and I do all I can to stay clear. the worst thing is loss of  momentum and if keeping clear so they can keep moving helps I do. thats the worst part of the drive.

Let me explain something here, I'm not running an "illegal", overweight truck. I'm permitted to run this long, heavy combination in Nevada, Colorado, Utah, Idaho and 29 miles of Arizona. This weight is evenly spread on 34 tires (new, not recaps), 9 axles, between two 45' trailers, and I have no problem locking down the 18 individual brakes when it's deemed necessary.

I could go off on a long rant here, but I'll just bite my tongue.

You need to go get the Cummins programmer and remove the govener, then put a propane injection kit on it! :laugh

As a mattter of fact, Cummins did come out to the shop this week and installed a :comp "Hot Fix" program.

No more funky progressive shifting RPMs and it's running like a big dog now! :good

:good Bob She,s still a kitten. Ours is almost 1,300,000... :rotflmao Were looking at new trucks, going to try and replace her before the end of the year. There is a 06 Pete 379EXHD non Ultracab with the 48" sleeper 22.5 LP 475 twin turbo Cat C15 13 speed 3.36 rears. It would be perfect for us, light and @250" were trying to look around a little more but it sure is tempting to just buy new and get it over with. Used trucks are a crap shoot, the only reason we bought this one we have now was it was a friend of ours truck and he kept it up very well. :good
