I want to get a older 1 ton truck (90's). Anyone had any experience with the lifespans of the 4l80e or the Ford hd tranny (EOD??).
I know our Ford buckettrucks that the company bought in 90-91 were only good for about 30,000 (hard) miles between rebuilds.

I had a 4L80E in my 99 HD, sold the truck yesterday 90K miles never gave me any problems. Don't over heat them and change ALL the trans fluid on a regular schedule and most auto trans will last a good long time. Heat is the killer, if you don't have a trans temp gauge put one in and keep an eye on it. The AOD's here at work never make 20K, but that's a mine for you? :D

You can get kits for those that will extend the life of them, also make them nice to drive!..

If you want it to last forever, Kevlar bands and clutches and a good shift kit. Some may require a little more mods than others....

My 1 ton endevors might already be on hold. I think my wife is letting me know that she wants a suburban. The tranny info is still good though I'll just be looking at the 4l60e stuff.

And since it needs to be torn down for that, may as well add a little extra and set the clearances right!.. :good

It had a welder, compressor, 6 compressed gas cylinders, tool boxes w/tools and all the other things that go allong with a welding/service truck. I would say that it was @20 to 22K with all my crap on it. Thats just the truck, I also pull a 16' trailer to haul the material. On the freeway I towed in OD but in town I kept it out of OD.

Its rough on the outside and the front seat is showing some wear. I've put a lot of new parts on it in the last year. But I'm not asking a ton of money for it. Something near $3500 would buy it.
