Maybe a truck of the same year and drive train would have the same set up......

I made it on just barely over a half a tank. I had a 750 on it at the time, I put my 650 back on should get even better mileage!.. :good

Well, you could always use a carb from a Clark forklift if you really wanted to save on gas. ;)

The downside is it's take two weeks to get home. :rotflmao

Seriously, a friend of mine did just that on a Chevy Vega back in the '70s because he had a daily commute from San Diego to L.A. . No power on the hills, but he did get over 55. mpg. :good

Yeah that would save gas alright, that 468 would be dying, LOL.. :laugh

Besides getting better mileage, it ran about 10 degrees cooler too!. :good

Since we're talking about this... anyone know where the AIR pumps feed on a non-cat system??

The MH has 2 airpumps with no belt and no hose feeding anywhere, and so they failed it on equipment, even though they let me run it and it passed with flying colors...  :rolleyes

Interesting to note that Colorado is about stop emmission testing.  The number of non computerized car's is so low on the roads, that they are going to a sniffer system on the road sides (most likely on ramps).  You'll only have to take your car in if one of the road side systems pick up if you are over the limit.

Ain't that a rip, clean as can be but they won't pass you because of the junk, meanwhile it's supposed to be all about clean air, yeah right!.. :angry

If I remember right the pumps fed into a port at the end of the heads, of course depending on the year it could be different, not sure???.. :stupid

They had those road dogs here too a few years back, they would sit on the on ramps, if you failed you'd get a letter in the mail, that didn't last too long. The trick was to haul ass down the on ramp and back off for a bit as you went by them!. :laugh

There also may be a port on the intake where it feeds the EGR valve.

Agreed....

However, on closer inspection, everything is there and hooked up.  The two lines pointing aft are plugged/capped off, I was thinking they might have gone to the cat if there was one.  As it is now, the AIR lines feed into fittings in the back of the heads.  All I need is a belt.

Of course, it is the rear most belt on the crank pulley, so all the others have to come off first.   :rolleyes  :beat

What do you guys think about putting a quart of tranny fluid in a older motor for about 50 miles in order to free up some sticky lifters? By the way right now the eng doesn't leek any oil on the driveway (the seals are good).

I wouldn't ATF is not motor oil, put a can of CD2 in (the lifter stuff)that works pretty good, but if they're real bad it's time for a tear down!.. Don't understand what people got against changing the oil!.. :rolleyes

I put one bottle of CD2 in yesterday. I am waiting to see how it does before I take more aggressive action. My plan was to run that long enough to clean things out and I have a K&N oil filter and synthetic oil for the oil chg (this weekend?).

The thing sounds like a thrashing mach when I start it up and clams down at oper temp. I also noticed according to the guage  :rolleyes it's at 40 psi cold and 20 psi hot at idle. Seeing as I just got the thing maybe the guy had thin oil in it and I can chg it with a 20-40w and help it out that way?

I had a 90 Lumina that sounded like it had a rod knock for the first couple of seconds when it was first started cold. I tryed different weights of oil, that didn't change anything. I put some STP in it, which I have never use in a vehicle, and amazingly enough, it quieted it down....

Carefull  with synthetic it may have a lot of wear and a 5w 20 may not be the answer

Is that like the Lucas stuff that thickens the oil?

STP is really thick, almost like honey.

If you're going to trade a knocking car in at the dealer, a couple cans will usually do it. :p

Like Bob said, it's pretty thick. I used it that car for about 4-5 years before I got rid of the car.

I just bought a 99 Burb 5.7l it's a Cal truck and it runs good but it has the Cal smog crap on it. I am assuming that the smog equip will rob hp and maybe mpg. Can I take it off? Does it matter? What do you guys got?  :confused

you guys are pretty good if you take any sensors or smog stuff off a gm engine you are looking for big trouble the pcm is programmed to run with it all.  we usualy recommend a cat back exhaust,KN filter-intake system and a hypertech programer. you can do more just depends on $$$

Have I passed you on the river?
