Not to deter from helping SouthBayRB. I'm having a problem with my trailer. It seems that sometimes when I'm towing back and forth to the lake, the brakes get so hot that it starts to boil my grease inside the hub.

I've tried bleeding the system and that seemed to work for a little while. But on my last trip to Havasu, we hit alot of traffic in town. Did alot of stop and go. When I got home I noticed that one of my bearing buddy covers had popped off and the grease on both wheels was or had spewed out. It only does it on the wheels that have the brakes on them. Any suggestions whould be greatly appreciated. :stupid  :stupid  :confused

Two things to check that I've seen cause that;

The breakaway cable can get yanked to the point where it catches and keeps the brakes on...so check the cable.

Also, the coupler is where the surge brake activates (braking causes the trailer to push forward and compress the master cylinder piston) and that can bind causing the brakes to stay on...so make sure that the coupler is lubed and can slide in and out.  :D

Thanks Glassman and everyone else on their input. I was going to go home today and start to fiddling with that. Do you think I should use grease or will some WD-40 work?

Hey, did you ever take care of the problemo?  :stupid

To answer that unanswered question...if it still matters, use marine grease. The WD will wash away quickly.

This caught my eye since I've been doing a bunch of axle/suspension/bearing/brake work on my Toyhauler... :beat

Seems the deeper I dig and closer I look, something else needed to be replaced.

Why they use this Chinese crap is beyond me. Upgrading to Made in The USA is expensive though - so I guess that answers my question.  :banghead

Sounds like you'll be ready to drag the boat to the river just in time!  :good

I did a complete overhaul/inspection of my wheels/tire/brakes/bearings last weekend and flushed out all the old grease, cleaned and re-packed with synthetic Mobil 1!  :good
That should hold 'em for a while. Turns out that the bearings were made in Russia  :eek  They looked to be in perfect condition.  ;)
