I'll have to give it a try the way it is now before I make the investment. I am running 12.5x35x16's now. If I air 'em down I'm guessing I'll be ok. Its a big ass trailer with triple axles so I don't think it'll sink into the sand like my single axle trailer did  :laugh
Where I go camping in Glamis is away from others into the dunes slightly.
.
Ah yes, now I remeber the other question for you FBT. Did you notice a difference in fuel mileage after switching to dually?

My truck is the last of the old 7.3's, it doesnt' have an air-to-air(intercooler)
When things sort out around here I gotta get one.
I have a stout 4-step chip, ATS fast-spool exhaust side turbo, big downpipe, ATS triple lock converter, TYMAR intake, etc etc etc.
Up on Donner, @ 5000 ft., loaded down I have lots more throttle than I have room on the Pyrometer. I would be willing to loose some manifold pressure to gain some EGT room, the net effect of a cooler charge at lower boost would probably be nil, and I could push the go pedal down more.
Cindy wants me to quit screwing with it....but where is the fun in that?

Yes, we pulled the trans at about 50k and went thru it. The stock converter, with it's single lockup disc, was dying, and I didn't want to chance it.
Best buddy owns a Tranny shop up here, 30 years in the bizz.
It has all the good stuff, billet ATS triple-lock converter, HD clutches, big cooler, Mag-hytec deep sump pan, Hy-Torque ATF, etc, etc, etc.
At max weight and pulling Donner, it gets to about 190, that is it. Around town never over 150.
it is 10 years old and only has 81k on it, if I ever wear out the PSD, it'll get a 12-valve Cummins.
I plan on keeping this truck forever. It is the only brand new vehicle I have ever purchased.

I have great concern about my tranny too. Totally stock although I have maintained it very well by servicing and changing oil every 12k.
My truck is also the 7.3 but with the intercooler. I've added 4" exhaust and my 3 stage programmer that I have on the low setting.
Its such a lazy shifting trans that I know it'll kill the clutches pretty quick.
I thought there are programmers for the tranny ECU :stupid  so I was gonna look into that and increase the size of the cooler significantly.
Can you manually lock the converter you have FBT? Or does it lock up early so slippage is minimal?

Zig the only manual control I have over the converter is O/D lockout button on the shifter. The converter lockup feels much more solid with the ATS, and after seeing the guts inside a stocker I would never tow with one again. One single scrawny clutch disc holds all the weight against the converter. Not good.
My chip has trans programming in it too. I am quite happy with the shift points, much better hold- back and cleaner, crisper, but not "slamming" shifts.
Get yourself a Mag-Hytec trans pan, they have over twice the sump of the stocker, and have a drain plug and a trans gauge port built right in.
Get the maximum size trans cooler you can stuff in front of the I/C. Do you have gauges for EGT/Boost/Trans?
(The factory trans gauge in my friend's '03 turned out to be nothing but a glorified idiot light.)
I am a big believer in the Hy-Torque ATF. It is made by Hydrotex Corp form a pure base stock. It is not synthetic. Back when I had a motor home, just changing from Dexron to Hy-torque dropped the operating temp on the mechanical guage in the T-400 by over 20 degrees.
I am sure you would have similiar results with Amsoil or some other good grade stuff if ya can't find Hy-torque
thedieselstop.com is a great resource for info on these trucks.
