Yeah it was a real mess, got it all clean and did a recovery on it and it's back the way it was when new, still a dud but at least it's usable, told the owner he needs memory just waiting on a reply..

If it's just gonna surf the 'net and do email, downsizing to W95 (if you've got one) is a good way to go.

Well, got the PSU pretty much done still need to be stitched, don't look the greatest but not to bad for the first time, bad thing is this case wasn't designed for cable management, actually it's a very poor design. Still need to do the SATA and fan cables and run the fan cables to the controller, but this old POS I'm using now is starting to fail so I just put it back together so I can use it for now, and right now I have to much other things that need to be done anyways, so this is as far as it's going for a while.

I've had this nice tower computer in the garage/shop that's just for doing video/graphics stuff.  It was running Windows 7 "Enterprise" and during one of Bill Gates  automatic updates, it lost it's software "key". I would re-input it and everything was fine...until the next update...  Figured it was externally attacked so just shut it down   ...until yesterday.
Local shop (been there 8 years now) buys used stuff and fixes them up...killer deals and sometimes a gem or two come in and he'll call me about it. Â
So I stop in yesterday to say "hi" and ask him about the dead duck in the garage. Â He said just bring it down and he'll get it goin'...
Coupla hours later, a fresh install of W7 Pro, MS Office 2007, Win Security Essentials...and nutin' else...for a hundy... Â Â
I just might take the XP machines from the shop and get them upgraded to W7, add ram, etc. Â The kid's a straight shooter...

That happened to me also, Microsoft came up with an update to replace WGA(Windows Genuine Advantage) with WAT(Windows Activation Technologies) it came with SP1, the update is KB971033, supposedly this deal is supposed to prevent hacking Activation, the cure was to format and reload Windows then when doing the updates I watched for KB971033 then right clicked on it and turned it off so it don't pop up anymore done deal, been a year now no problems..

NEW WORKBENCH TOY...
I have a bunch of hard disks from old computers that needed to be trashed, but I thought I check what's on them first...
This $25 cable/connector did the trick...works with both SATA and IDE...looks like a USB storage device in File Manager.
Sabrent on Amazon
Didn't find much...formatted them anyway...need to find some enclosures to make 100g externals...

I've got a "toaster" for SATA drives which is very handy...hot swap out storage drives. You can get one for IDE as well...NEVER have enough storage...

YEE HAA!!!! Replaced my cable modem tonight to the latest and greatest 3.0 version. I need to put seat belts on my chair now. CRAP it's fast now. Called COX and with no other upgrades and no changes to my account. Went from 20 to well over 50 meg a second. Even with my crappy PC's it a mass improvement speed wise. My laptop on wireless it freak'n fast now.
Jimmy John's eat sh!t.
